Barclays Premier League
Manchester United have returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 victory over old rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney and Ji-Sung Park.
Elsewhere today in the Premier League, Fulham fell victim to a European hangover as Manchester City won 2-1 at Craven Cottage, and Chelsea will be keen to make amends for their Champions League exit away to Blackburn.
There were also two games in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Scottish League Cup Final
Rangers have beaten St Mirren to take the Scottish League Cup, despite having two men sent off.
In the Airtricity League, Shamrock Rovers' poor start to the season continued as they lost 2-0 to Dundalk in Tallaght Stadium.
