Ballyfitz set for Hennessy Gold Cup

A tilt at the Hennessy Gold Cup is on the agenda for Ballyfitz following his fine effort in defeat at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The nine-year-old was the subject of strong support for the Paddy Power Gold Cup following heavy rain in the days leading up to the race and although he failed to hit the bullseye, he stayed on strongly up the famous hill to finish fourth.

Carl Llewellyn, assistant to trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies, feels Ballyfitz will come into his own when stepping back up in trip and sees Newbury's 28 November feature as the obvious next port of call.

'He ran very well and although he was under pressure from a long way out, he kept going until the end and wasn't beaten far into fourth,' said Llewellyn.

'We'll have to look at the Hennessy for him now as the step back up in trip will help. Hopefully there is a bit more to come from him.'
