Moylette to take part in U-21 Championships

AIBA World Youth champion Ray Moylette has confirmed that he will be taking part in the 2009 National U-21 Championships which begin at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night.

Moylette, who is coached by brothers Peter and Paul Mullen and Gary Kennedy at the St Anne's club in Westport, claimed lightweight gold at the 2008 AIBA World Youth Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 19-year-old is currently ranked at 21 in the AIBA World Senior rankings.

Stephen O'Reilly, Patrick Ward, Daniel Coughlan and Pat Corcoran are the four defending champions entered, as of 14 October.

However, the light-middleweight (71Kg) title is vacant this term because reigning champion Shane McGuigan, son of ex-Irish Olympian and WBA featherweight champ Barry McGuigan, will not be defending his belt.

Fifteen female boxers have entered this year's Championships.

The weigh-in will take place between 8.30am and 10am and 12 noon and 1pm at the National Stadium on Friday.

The draw will be held at 1.15pm. Boxing begins at 7.00pm on Friday.
