Chelsea v Liverpool team news
Tuesday, 24 April 2007 14:10Jose Mourinho could be without injured defender Ricardo Carvalho and midfielder Michael Ballack for the Champions League semi-final first leg tie against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Carvalho missed the draw at Newcastle with a leg injury while Ballack was forced out of the action in the same Barclays Premiership game with an ankle problem.
Midfielder Michael Essien is suspended and winger Arjen Robben is also out with a knee injury.
Jamie Carragher will equal Ian Callaghan's club record of 89 European games for Liverpool when he lines out as expected.
Manager Rafael Benitez has a virtually clean bill of health for the clash, with full-back Steve Finnan now recovered from a neck problem that has kept him out for the last two matches.
Benitez has refused to be drawn on second-choice goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek's claims he will leave the club in the summer when his contract ends, saying: 'We are talking about his future, and maybe he will leave. But he is perfectly prepared mentally to be in the squad at Chelsea.'
Chelsea provisional squad: Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Ferreira, Geremi, Diarra, Terry, Boulahrouz, A Cole, Bridge, Makelele, Essien, Mikel, Lampard, Drogba, Shevchenko, Kalou, Wright-Phillips, J Cole.
