Monaghan United 2-4 Galway United

A second-half collapse cost Monaghan United their chances of a League Cup upset over Galway United at Kingspan Century Park.

The First Division side led 2-1 at half-time, a brace from Willie Doyle - one a cool first time volley and the other a close-range finish -  being punctuated by Alan Murphy's equaliser for Galway.

But three goals by a resurgent Galway within 17 minutes of the resumption decided the game.

Wesley Charles headed home John Lester's free-kick after 47 minutes, and the visitors went in front when Lester's deflected free-kick left Darren McQuaid helpless in the Monaghan goal in the 61st minute.

But the United keeper was guilty of a bad error a minute later when he allowed Barry Moran's speculative effort from distance to spin out of his grasp and into the net.

Monaghan United: McQuaid; Gannon, Feeney, Mooney, Whelan; Finnegan, D'Arcy, Meenan, Williamson; Mackey, Doyle.
Subs: McDonald for Finnegan, 62.  Heffernan for D'Arcy, 72. McCluskey for Meenan 84.

Galway United: Rogers; Cleary, Charles, Nooitmeer; James, Murphy, Foley, O'Brien, Lester; O'Flynn, Moran.
Subs: Armstrong for Cleary; Davoreen for O'Flynn (both 46).  Glynn for Armstrong, 58.
