Keogh replaces Folan in Irish squad
Saturday, 17 March 2007 23:45Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Andy Keogh has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for next week's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Wales and Slovakia at Croke Park.
The 20-year-old replaces Wigan Athletic's Caleb Folan who injured his ankle during the first half of this afternoon's Premiership game with Fulham.
It was a cruel blow for the 24-year-old striker who received his Irish passport on Wednesday and his first international call-up on Thursday.
Ireland 'B' international Keogh was part of the Ireland squad for last month's win over San Marino and scored a 90th minute equaliser earlier today for Wolves against Sheffield Wednesday.
Folan is the only withdrawal at this stage from the Ireland squad.
However, manager Stephen Staunton faces an anxious few days before the squad reports to their Portmarnock base on Tuesday as many of his star players are in action before then.
