Gillespie fitness worry for Black Caps

New Zealand seamer Mark Gillespie could miss next week's World Cup opener against England because of an arm infection.

The 27-year-old, who played against England three times in the recent Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia, has contracted a virus that has numbed his bowling arm.

The problem, which New Zealand officials called acute brachial neuritis, is believed to have developed from a throat virus and began to affect his arm during the flight to The Caribbean.

Gillespie is almost certain to miss tomorrow's warm-up match against Bangladesh in Barbados and is also a doubt for next Friday's Group C clash with England in St Lucia.

Gillespie is due to see a specialist tomorrow to assess the condition.
