Banned Brennan could face further punishment

Toulouse forward Trevor Brennan heads into an ERC disciplinary hearing in Dublin on Monday having been banned by the French Rugby Federation (FFR) until 15 March.

The former Ireland lock, 33, has been handed the suspension following his alleged assault on an Ulster fan during a Heineken Cup match last month. The International Rugby Board requested the FFR take the measure as it was 'in the interests of the game'.

Brennan has been banned from 'participating in matches organised by the FFR and the league until March 15'. The FFR added in a statement: 'If before this date, a decision is taken by the authorities (ERC) to intervene on the subject, these arrangements would come to an end.'

Brennan is facing a lengthy ban as a result of the January 21 incident. A substitute for the pool game, he was warming up when he claims he was verbally abused by a group of Ulster fans.

Brennan left the playing enclosure and appeared to throw some punches at members of the crowd. Ulster fan Patrick Bamford is pursuing legal action after being left needing medical treatment following the incident.

Brennan, who has since apologised for his role in the incident, claimed he was provoked by taunts about his mother. He will stand before an ERC disciplinary commission on Monday regarding the matter.
