Egyptians claim third at Club Championships

Two goals from playmaker Mohamed Aboutrika saw Egypt's Al Ahly beat Club America from Mexico 2-1 and take third place in the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.

The midfielder scored a goal in each half to give the African champions the win just one year after they finished last in the event.

Aboutrika opened the scoring with a perfectly taken free kick from the edge of the penalty area three minutes before the end of the opening 45 minutes.

But Salvador Cabanas pulled the Concacaf champions level 14 minutes after the restart when he arrived late in the penalty area to head home a cross from the right by former Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco.

The game looked destined for extra time but, with 11 minutes to go, Aboutrika slotted his second of the game past Guillermo Ochoa to give the African side the bronze medal.
