The 37-year-old midfielder aims to help the team get back on track after a poor run that has seen them collect only four points from a possible 21.
Full-back Ricardo Gardner is likely to be on the bench after recovering from a knee injury while Tal Ben Haim is suspended. Quinton Fortune remains doubtful with an Achilles problem.
Anton Ferdinand has an ankle injury and is a doubt for West Ham while fellow centre half Danny Gabbidon remains sidelined with a hamstring strain.
The Hammers will also make a late check on Javier Mascherano after the midfielder suffered a knock in training.
