Rooney a special talent: Speed

Gary Speed believes Wayne Rooney deserves to be recognised as a special talent - even when he is not scoring.

The England and Manchester United striker ended a run of 10 games without a goal for club and country in the week of his 21st birthday with a superb hat-trick against Bolton wanderers.

Speed has played with and against the great and the good during a record 493 Barclays Premiership games.

The Bolton midfielder said: 'Wayne has been a great player since he was 17. He is a natural. He knows when to pass it, he knows when to do a bit.

Wayne also knows where to run and where to go. He is a fantastic player and brings more to United than just goals.
