Juventus content with restored points
Saturday, 28 October 2006 11:05Juventus are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after their successful appeal to the Italian Olympic Committee against the punishment handed out for their involvement in the match-fixing scandal.
Juve were given eight points back by the country's most senior sporting body after winning their appeal against the points penalty given during the summer.
The Turin giants, who were the only club involved in the affair to be demoted to the second division, had started the campaign with a 17-point penalty.
But Friday's ruling sees the Turin giants climb to 10th in the Serie B standings, eight points behind leaders Genoa after eight games, much to the delight of club president Giovanni Cobogli Gigli.
'I have always reiterated that I expected a substantial deduction,' said Cobogli Gigli.
'I think with eight points given, Juve can consider itself satisfied considering the rumours that had been flying around.
'Yesterday a dark chapter in the history of the Bianconeri club has been closed and today a new adventure begins. Our main aim remains the same, which is to return to the Serie A at the end of the campaign.'
Juve host Frosinone on Sunday looking to maintain their unbeaten run, having managed six wins so far this season.
