Juve confident ahead of appeal
Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:12Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli is confident the club can win the appeal against their punishment for match-fixing after Wednesday's hearing.
The club's lawyers presented their case for two hours to the board of arbitration of the Italian Olympic Committee in Rome in the hope of seeing the punishment reduced.
The Old Lady were relegated to Serie B and deducted 17 points, but Cobolli Gigli is hopeful that will be cut.
He said: 'We can expect a substantial reduction in our punishment. Our lawyers presented our case and we have great confidence in the verdict.'
AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina, the other three clubs involved in the scandal, will also have their appeals heard later this week.
The board of arbitration of the CONI -the highest sporting justice body in Italy - will not announce the verdict until later this month.
