Rose and Cejka share Texan lead
Friday, 22 September 2006 11:12Germany's Alex Cejka and Briton Justin Rose shared the lead in the Texas Open first round after returning six-under-par 64s on Thursday.
Cejka enjoyed an error-free afternoon at San Antonio's LaCantera Golf Club, carding six birdies, while Rose continued his superb form by mixing eight birdies with a pair of bogeys.
While both Cejka and Rose have celebrated international wins, they arrive in Texas chasing their maiden PGA Tour title.
Cejka came close this year with a third place at the John Deere Classic and Rose has flirted in recent weeks with lifting the elusive title.
Enjoying rich late season form, the Briton held the lead after three rounds at the Canadian Open and was in contention at last week's Lumber Classic.
Lurking one shot back at five-under 65 was a group of four players, including Americans Bob Burns, Ted Purdy, D.A. Points and Australian David McKenzie.
American Dean Wilson, winner of the International, headlines a group of four at four-under 66.
Bernhard Langer, who captained Europe to victory at the 2004 Ryder Cup, opened with a two-under 68.
