Sheffield United land Brian Kidd

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock today added Brian Kidd to his coaching staff at Bramall Lane.

And Warnock insisted Kidd could prove to be the Blades' 'best signing of the season'.

Kidd, 57, who was also wanted by Sunderland, has agreed terms until the end of the season and will team up with Warnock and assistant manager Stuart McCall.

Warnock told the Sheffield Star: 'Brian was always my number one choice and I'm delighted because he'll be worth his weight in gold. He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge which means he'll get instant respect from the players. Brian's role will be to assist myself and Stuart.

'We want to be able to do a lot more individual coaching and this will allow us to do that because, since we went up, it's been difficult to find the time, there's so much going on.

'Brian had turned down plenty of other offers so we're pleased that he wanted to work with us. Having him on board is a real plus and people always welcome a fresh face and a different slant on things.'
