Black Cats expected to unveil new manager
Sunday, 23 July 2006 20:08Sunderland are expected to unveil their new manager this week, with Niall Quinn linked with the vacant post at the Stadium of Light.
Former Black Cats striker Quinn is chairman of Drumaville, who have tabled a £10million takeover bid of the club but have been given permission to start work before the end of the conditional offer period.
With Quinn set to take over from outgoing chairman Bob Murray as Sunderland's chairman, his first task has been to recruit a new manager following the departure of Mick McCarthy last season when the club were relegated from the Barclays Premiership.
David O'Leary was linked with the post after he parted ways with Aston Villa last week, while Bolton boss Sam Allardyce was strongly linked with a return to the club he once played for.
However, with the Coca-Cola Championship season less than two weeks away and the club appearing to be no nearer to hiring a manager, Quinn could take the reins at least in on a temporary basis.
The club are currently in Ireland for a game against Shelbourne at Tolka Park tomorrow, with an announcement on the managerial post possibly to be made on Wednesday.
An announcement could come via the stock exchange through Drumaville.
