CSF backs Brazil's World Cup 2014 bid

South American Football Confederation (CSF) president Nicolas Leoz has confirmed that Brazil will have the association's backing to stage the 2014 World Cup.

'The first option to host the 2014 World Cup is Brazil. They officially asked for the honour and were supported by the ten South American federations,' said the Paraguayan after a meeting with Colombian vice-president Francisco Santos.

Leoz rejected the Colombian candidacy for the time being adding: 'They had the big chance in 1986 but they were replaced by Mexico because they had several economic problems.'

However, Santos claimed that Colombia will fight to improve their chances of hosting the most important football tournament.

Colombian First Division president Luis Bedoya added: 'Despite knowing that Brazil are the first option, at least we want to fight for a chance.'
