Parreira resigns as Brazil coach

Carlos Alberto Parreira resigned as coach of Brazil today less than three weeks after their quarter-final exit at the World Cup, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said.

Parreira met with CBF president Ricardo Teixeira this morning and the news was confirmed shortly after.

'It was a joint decision and Parreira will not have, from today, any professional connection with the Brazilian Football Confederation,' said a statement on the CBF's official site.

Parreira, who led Brazil to their fourth world title in 1994, had been at the helm since the start of 2003. Brazil lost 1-0 to France at the World Cup after starting the tournament as favourites.
