Alex proves class in Oaks

Alexandrova proved different class to her rivals in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Sunday as she swooped from last to first to complete the Irish/English Oaks double.

Kieren Fallon settled the Epsom winner in rear before pressing the button two furlongs out and heading for a gap up the rail.

She again showed a devastating turn of foot to lead before the furlong marker and pull clear from Scottish Stage for an easy four-length victory.

The Yorkshire Oaks (August 23rd) could be next on the agenda for the daughter of Sadler's Wells.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien was landing the classic for the first time and was full of praise for the filly: "She's electric - it's unbelievable the way she can change gears."

12/1 shot Regional Counsel had earlier pounced late to grab the spoils in a blanket finish to the Dubai Duty Free Anglesey Stakes.

Kevin Prendergast's charge got a nice split late on as he got up to deny English raider Sadeek by a neck in the Group 3 contest.

There was only a further neck back to Chivalrous in third with Gaudeamus just half a length back in fourth.

5/2f Finicius didn't get the best of runs, a short-head back in fifth.

The winner has the Group 1 National Stakes (September 17th) and the Group 2 Beresford Stakes (October 8th) as possible targets.

Only three went to post for the Group 3 Emirates Airline Minstrel Stakes but it produced a thrilling finish.

Noelani made the running and was challenged by Jedburgh a furlong from home.  John Dunlop's raider soon edged ahead but was all out to hold the persistent challenge of the mare by a
neck.

Peter Casey has his team in flying form and his charge Blessyourpinksox swooped late to land the Kilboy Estate Stakes.

Fran Berry produced the mare to lead inside the final furlong of the Listed event and score by half-a-length from Fermion.

4/5f Red Rock Canyon's reputation proceeded him for the Jumeirah EBF Maiden but he had to play second fiddle to another newcomer in Teofilo.

Jim Bolger's colt proved a game winner, disputing the lead throughout, and sticking to his guns well when challenged by the Ballydoyle juvenile, inside the final furlong, to prevail by a neck.

Nina Carberry landed the Thalgo Ladies Derby Handicap when keeping Tour De Force going to score by a length from Swiss Cottage while Dal Cais ran out an ultra-game winner of the Maudlins House Hotel Nursery.
