Song exudes positive tune
Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:19Soviet Song is pleasing trainer James Fanshawe as the countdown begins in her bid to complete a UAE Equestrian And Racing Federation Falmouth Stakes hat-trick at Newmarket next week.
The six-year-old mare took the scalp of Attraction in the Group One contest over a mile two years ago and then defeated Alexander Goldrun on the July course last summer.
And the Elite Racing Club's mare opened her account for this campaign when landing the Group Two Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot by two lengths from Echelon.
She has pleased at home since then and demonstrated her well-being with a spin on the Newmarket gallops on Wednesday.
This morning she cantered on Warren Hill under her regular exercise rider Mark Denaro and she was clearly on good terms with herself, moving in company with fellow Royal Ascot scorer Cesare, who struck in the Royal Hunt Cup.
Fanshawe said: 'She has come out of her Ascot race well, is fine and I hope we keep her in one piece until next week. We'll just keep her ticking over. Whether we give her a spin on Saturday, I'm not sure.'
Fanshawe refused to be drawn into making any bold predictions about his stable star while anticipating a warm renewal of the race. He said: 'It will be interesting to see who turns up but, potentially, it could be a hot race. We will know on Friday who is left in at the five-day stage.'
Fanshawe also added that he doesn't regret side-stepping the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal meeting with Soviet Song.
He said: 'I've got no regrets about the Queen Anne. She was well in in the Windsor Forest and I really wanted to just get her winning again. That was the thinking behind it.'
