Derby principals may convene at HQ

Epsom Derby winner Sir Percy and Darsi winner of the French equivalent could both attempt a Classic double in what promises to be a competitive Budweiser Irish Derby on July 2.

Connections of both horses will now consider the ¤1.5 million contest following their victories last weekend. Sir Percy, who has been installed as the 9/4 favourite by Boylesports, is reported to be none the worse for his short-head triumph and a trip to the Curragh is being seriously considered by his connections.

The Marcus Tregoning trained performer is likely to renew rivalry with Epsom Derby runner Dragon Dancer, the Aidan O'Brien trained Dylan Thomas who finished third, while unlucky fourth Hala Bek is likely to be supplemented for the race by owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum.

French Derby winner Darsi is expected to attempt to give his owner HH The Aga Khan a sixth success in the Curragh classic following the victories of Shergar, Shahrastani, Kahyasi, Sinndar and Alamshar.

This years Festival kicks off at 6pm on Friday June 30 with Kildare Village as the new title sponsors of Derby Friday. The new Kildare Outlet Shopping Village, which opens this summer, will support three races. Other races include the valuable Woodpark and Ballysheehan Studs Stakes and races supported by the Silken Thomas and N Conlan & Sons.

Audi Derby Saturday on July 1 is all about fillies and fashion with a high quality 7 race program starting at 2.15pm featuring the Group 1 Audi Pretty Polly Stakes and Group 3 At The Races Curragh Cup. Woodies DIY, Jordan Town and Country Estate Agents, Roadbridge, Netjets and ABB LTD will support other races.

The search for the style icons of horse racing will continue with the Kildare Village sponsored 'Fashions on the Turf' Ladies Day competition.
