Song choice for connections
Sunday, 14 May 2006 12:06Connections of Soviet Song have still to make a decision on whether the mare will take her chance in Saturday's Group One Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
The six-year-old pleased connections in a workout on Saturday morning and has been left in the contest at the five-day declaration stage but trainer James Fanshawe will monitor her progress before making any commitment.
"I was pleased with her (after the workout), so we'll leave her in the Lockinge and see how she is for the next few days," said Fanshawe.
"We want to do what's best for her, so I need to see how she progresses before I make up my mind about whether she should go to Newbury," he told the Racing Post.
"I'm not sure if we'll work her again in the early part of the week - that will depend on what we feel is appropriate - but she's coming along and the Lockinge is still a possibility."
The mare has been off the track since finishing second to Proclamation in the Group One Sussex Stakes last July and the Group Two Ridgewood Pearl Stakes on May 27 has been mentioned as an alternative.
