Tottenham to consider legal options
Monday, 8 May 2006 16:01Tottenham Hotspur are this morning considering how to recoup losses as they digest a £10million shortfall in Champions League revenue following their bout of untimely food poisoning.
Spurs must count the cost of falling at the final hurdle of qualification for Europe's premier football competition after several first-team players fell ill on the eve of one of the most important matches in the club's history.
Their subsequent defeat at West Ham United and Arsenal's victory at home to Wigan Athletic conspired against them yesterday on the last day of the Barclays Premiership season - and now they are reportedly considering legal recourse to recover their losses.
The Tottenham squad dined at a Marriott hotel in London's Canary Wharf before they were struck down by illness.
Less than half-a-day later, following emergency discussions with the Premier League, they found themselves taking the field against West Ham.
The decision was made after they had been informed that only a minor delay to kick-off could have been sanctioned by police on a showpiece occasion for the Premiership.
The club are expected to consider aspects of the incident at an emergency board meeting as they work out whether or not they have a case for compensation against any of the parties involved.
