Mixed luck for Devaney in Shanghai
Sunday, 2 April 2006 14:25Dubliner Michael Devaney returned to the series with fourth place but his second race was ended in spectacular fashion.
The Ireland driver made contact with Indonesia's Ananda Mikola and his car was launched into a series of rolls, which he was fortunate to escape unscathed from.
Ex-Formula One backmarker Alex Yoong taking a surprise win in the first race.
Malaysian driver Yoong, who won few admirers during a miserable campaign for Minardi in 2002, backed up his pole position with victory.
Britain's Darren Manning second while Mexico's Salvador Duran completed the podium in third.
Devaney said: "I left plenty of room on the inside for Ananda in case he had the speed to try and re-pass me but I think he just understeered and took me out.
"I'm really disappointed by this as I had a good sprint race and was confident we could get a podium in the feature race. I'm okay but the car is pretty well destroyed."
