Review of Thurles action
Thursday, 30 March 2006 18:08Thurles' amazing all-weather-except-frost track staged an industry day card at Thurles today where jockey Wayne Lordan record a double for trainers Tommy Stack and Austin Leahy.
Lordan, who had recorded another double at The Curragh last Sunday, landed the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden on Stack's well backed 11/8 favourite Disclosure.
Disclosure tracked the leaders, moved through to lead over one furlong out before staying on under pressure for a three length win over Baynes Cross.
Afterwards, Stack's son Fozzy reported: "Disclosure should stay further and will go for a handicap or winners race. He'll make a grand three year old hurdler later this year."
Co Limerick trainer Austin Leahy was also quickly off the mark for the new season, when Walk In My Shadow arrived late to score by a short head, under Lordan, in the Devils Bit Handicap (division 2).
Leahy later reported "Walk In My Shadow was fit from hurdling and she had already won on heavy ground; we'll mix it between Flat and hurdles now. "
Master jockey Michael Kinane produced Grisham with a perfectly timed challenge to win the Nenagh Handicap (division 2), on his first ride for trainer Michael Phillips.
Phillips later described Kinane's performance as "a super ride" before adding "it's nice to get ourselves off to a 100% start for the new Flat season!"
