Splaine appointed Irish manager
Monday, 6 March 2006Robert Splaine has been appointed as team manager to the Irish show jumping team.
52-year-old Splaine saw off competition from four other candidates to claim the job he was originally offered by the showjumping association of Ireland last November.
Contract terms were under negotiation with Splaine towards the end of last year when the Equestrian Federation of Ireland stepped in, stating that the selection process for the post was flawed.
A new interview panel was set up by the federation last week and the committee, under the chairmanship of Pat O'Neill, opted for Splaine today subject to the finalisation of contract and personal terms.
