Dublin completes move to Glasgow

Celtic have completed the signing of veteran striker Dion Dublin.

The 36-year-old has joined the Hoops until the end of the season after his contract with Leicester was cancelled by mutual consent.

The former Aston Villa and Coventry player, who can also play in defence, worked under Hoops boss Gordon Strachan during their time together at Highfield Road.

A club statement said: "Celtic have today completed the signing of Dion Dublin from Leicester City.

"The player, who can play in a number of positions, has signed until the end of this season.

"Dublin played under Gordon Strachan at Coventry City, where he was also a team-mate of Paul Telfer's, and he is delighted to be joining a club of Celtic's stature."

While Dublin is at the tail-end of his career, his versatility will make him a valuable addition for Strachan after the departure of Chris Sutton to Birmingham.

Dublin began his career as a trainee at Norwich before moving to Cambridge United on a free transfer.

In August 1992, he had impressed enough for Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson to bring him to Old Trafford for £1million.

However, on his first start for the Red Devils, Dublin broke his leg in a game against Crystal Palace.

His career with United was over before it really began and he joined Coventry in 1994 for £2million.

Dublin captained the Sky Blues before moving to Aston Villa in November 1998 for £5.7million.

He joined Leicester in July 2004 on a free transfer after a loan spell with Millwall.
