Armagh star Toal on the mend

Armagh midfielder John Toal could be back playing football as early as June as his recovery from a broken leg is currently ahead of schedule.

The Keady clubman was stretchered off after 32 minutes of the drawn Ulster SFC final clash between Armagh and Tyrone last July, having sustained a horrific leg break. The 26-year-old admitted afterwards that he was 'very close to actually losing a leg'.

Toal lost his cruciate ligament, lateral ligament and a bag of fluid. He also ripped the calf muscle and the hamstring that was attached to his knee, as well as losing a considerable amount of cartilage.

Since then, the 2002 All-Ireland winner has had surgery to reconstruct his knee.

Toal, who is back doing some light jogging, also underwent intensive treatment at the Sports Injury Rebab Centre in Lilleshall, England.
