Waterford Crystal Cup round-up

University of Limerick came through the battle of Limerick's third-level institutions today as they hammered Limerick Institute of Technology 2-14 to 0-05 in the Waterford Crystal Cup quarter-final.

Ger Ryan and John Green netted for the University as the ensured their semi-final position.

Another third-level institution joined them there as Tipperary's Willie Ryan scored 1-04 and man-of-the-match Brian Dowling scored 1-07 for Waterford Institute of Technology as they beat Kerry 2-19 to 3-10 at Ballyheigue.

Limerick eased past Tipperary on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-12 as Mark Keane was top scorer on his return to action for the Treaty men after a two year absence.

In the last quarter-final Clare edged out UCC by the narrowest of margins, winning 1-14 to 0-16 at Clarecastle.

Clare led a tight game by a point, 0-08 to 0-07, at half time and it was Diarmuid McMahon's goal in the second half that proved decisive for the Banner side.
