Wexford beat Wicklow under floodlights

Wexford edged out Wicklow in the first round of the O'Byrne Cup, winning by 1-10 to 1-07 in the first inter-county football fixture of 2006.

Wicklow led the game at half time by 1-03 to 0-04. The opening goal came in the seventh minute from Leyton Glynn, after some excellent approach play from Tommy Gill, who was making his first inter county start in 12 months.

However last years league finalist hit back after the break and got the decisive score in the 47th minute when John Hudson scored a fine goal.

That goal left Wexford which left his side 1-7 to 1-4 in front and they never relinquished the lead after that.

Hudson finished as the games top scorer with 1-6 and Wexford will now play the winner of next weeks tie between Dublin and UCD in round two.
