Zidane urges Ballack Real's way

Real Madrid midfielder Zinedine Zidane has urged Germany captain Michael Ballack to join the Spanish giants rather than Manchester United next summer.

Madrid are thought to be lining up Bayern Munich star Ballack as their next big signing after his refusal to agree new terms with the Bundesliga champions.

United appear to have ruled themselves out of the race to sign Ballack, leaving Madrid and possibly Chelsea as the only potential destinations for the 29-year-old.

Although Ballack's arrival could lead to Zidane losing his place in the Madrid side, the Frenchman believes he would be a great signing.

"If there is someone with the qualities for Real Madrid, then that is Michael Ballack," Zidane told German newspaper Bild.

"I won't give up my place that easily, but we would welcome him with open arms, although first of all he has to resolve his situation with Bayern.

"He plays in midfield like I do, but I have a lot of respect for him both as a player and as a person. He is a fighter and he is in great form this season."
