Athlone Town and Gill part company

Athlone Town have confirmed the departure of manager John Gill from the club.

The Midlanders finished bottom of the eircom League First Division with just six wins from 36 games last season.

A statement from the Golden Island Park club this morning said: "Following on from the final game of the season last Saturday night, Athlone Town FC and John Gill have parted company.

"We wish to thank John and his assistant manager Gerry Scully for their efforts, and wish them well for the future.

"The club hope to be in a position to announce a successor before the end of this week."
