Fisichella caught speeding in Rome

Italian Formula 1 racer Giancarlo Fisichella had his driving license revoked by police on Sunday for speeding after clocking 148 kilometers per hour (92mph) on a street in Rome's suburbs.

The Renault driver told Italy's ANSA news agency he was caught  in a 60kph (35mph) zone rushing home early on Sunday from a party with his wife after the babysitter called to say his son had a high fever.

"I recognize that even in such situations one must respect the speed limit," said Fisichella. "I am ready to pay for my mistake."

His driving license was automatically revoked until a court hearing.
