Benayoun happy to get stuck in
Wednesday, 28 September 2005 17:30West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun believes he has silenced the critics by proving his lack of physical presence has not been a barrier to success in the Barclays Premiership.
Benayoun's inventive displays have been a major factor behind the Hammers' hugely impressive return to the top flight, with the Israeli international scoring once in his six appearances.
At £2.5million the 25-year-old July arrival from Racing Santander could become one of the shrewdest signings of the summer, dispelling suggestions his slight frame would prove a handicap in the Premiership.
Benayoun said: "The football is more aggressive in England and I enjoy that more. A lot of people have talked about my size and when I first joined West Ham they said that I wouldn't be strong enough for the English league. But I go in for every tackle and as the fans have seen, I can win headers as well.
"The manager has given me a lot of confidence so I can play without pressure. I am enjoying every moment of it at West Ham. The supporters are great and the players are all good guys with a good spirit for the team."
West Ham have climbed to fifth in the Premiership, making a mockery of predictions they would struggle to survive in the top flight.
Victories over Blackburn, Aston Villa and Fulham have given them a dream start with their blistering form continuing into last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
