Soviet future under discussion
Wednesday, 28 September 2005 12:01After being held up in her work by a sore foot, Soviet Song will not run again this season.
Trainer James Fanshawe had the Breeders Cup Mile and the Sun Chariot as end of term targets for his five-year-old, but the trainer along with the owners - Elite Racing Club - will now discuss plans for Soviet Song over the weekend.
Elite's racing manager Matthew Budden explained: "She's had a sore foot which has held her up. The bruising's been slow to
come out so James has been unable to get her ready in time.
"There is no decision on her future as yet. James and I will chat about it over the weekend. Once we have decided we will let the members know first.
"It's a pity as she looked as good, if not better than ever, when winning the Falmouth Stakes for a second time and then she was unlucky in the Sussex.
Soviet Song, winner of five Group One races, coughed the week after she finished second to Proclamation when bidding for back-to-back victories in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in July.
After recovering from that she was found to be sore on her off-fore foot earlier this month which ruled her out of the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
