Gardaí probe Thomond Park vandalism

Gardaí at Mayorstone in Limerick have confirmed they are investigating an incident at Thomond Park where up to 300 holes were dug on the pitch by vandals.

Munster Branch officials became aware of the damage as they arrived for the launch of this seasons Munster Senior Cup.

The incident took place between 5.15 and 6.30pm and it is understood local Gardaí are examining CCTV footage of two people wearing hooded tops on the pitch at that time

The playing surface is expected to be out of commission for up to five days, and it's expected that Friday's under-19 and under-21 interprovincials between Munster and Leinster scheduled for Thomond Park will be moved to an alternative venue.
