Bouma on the brink of Villa move

PSV Eindhoven defender Wilfred Bouma claims he is close to agreeing a deal with Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old Holland international has already visited Villa Park according to reports.

He told NOS Sportjournal: "It is time for me to go on. A few small things still have to be settled but I don't see any problems anymore.

"I wanted to see for myself how things looked at Villa and if there were possibilities in the Premier League for me," Bouma said.

Bouma has become accustomed to playing regular European football with PSV - the club reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

He insists Villa's absence from continental competition is not a problem due to the intensity of the Premier League.

"In the Premier League you have to be 100% every week, against every opponent. That is the beautiful thing about this competition. I can develop more here," he said.
