City to face Slavia Prague in UEFA Cup

watch listen

Cork City have been drawn against Czech side Slavia Prague in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

City will play Slavia, runners-up to Sparta Prague by nine points in the Czech Republic premier division, away in the first leg on Thursday 15 September at the Evzena Rosickeho Strahov Stadium and at home at Turner's Cross in the second leg two weeks later on Thursday 29 September.

Cork avoided several big names in the draw and should be quietly confident of giving Slavia a run for their money.

Details regarding the re-arrangement of Cork City's eircom League Premier Division fixtures affected by these UEFA Cup matches away v Longford Town and home v UCD will be announced as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, Everton have been drawn against Dinamo Bucharest, while Scottish side Hibernian face a tricky trip to Ukraine to face Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Middlesbrough, who reached the last 16 of the competition last season, were drawn against Greek side Xanthi, with Steve McClaren's side travelling away for the second leg.

Bolton, who finished sixth in the Barclays Premiership last season, begin their campaign at home against Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
