Carvalho forgiven for selection outburst

Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has been welcomed back into the fold after manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the player will feature against West Brom tomorrow night.

Carvalho was fined and given a verbal lashing by Mourinho after criticising the decision to leave him out for the first two league games of the season, and the Community Shield match against Arsenal.

Carvalho described Mourinho's decision as incomprehensible but Mourinho hit back by suggesting the Portuguese defender should have an IQ test as well as reprimanding the player in front of the rest of the squad.

However, it appears that Mourinho has forgiven the Portuguese defender for his outburst after he said: "Carvalho is selected. It is over. He did what he did, we reacted the way we did and he was punished by the club from the financial point of view."

"He was punished because the biggest punishment a player can have is not being selected. It is enough and now he has to work. He knows he is staying at Chelsea and I know he is a great player. He is not an ordinary player, he is a top one and one we want."

"In the future when they have something to say, they say it to me and the group. I hope they can do this because they know now that I don't accept it when you say nothing in a meeting with me and two days later you say a lot to the media."

"I think that they have got that message now but I guess during the season, more things will happen. That is the life of a group and a big quality one like we have. Ricardo was not having what he wants to have, he wants to play every game and I can accept his disappointment."
