Cosworth to drive Williams in 2006

Williams Formula 1 have confirmed today that they will be using the Cosworth V8 engine from the start of next season following reaching agreement with the engine manufacturers.

The team had been considering their options following the decision of current engine partner, BMW ,to purchase the Sauber F1 team.

In the past Williams and Cosworth produced some of the best cars ever to race in the F1 grade. The DFV V8 engine that the pair used in the 1970s is still the most successful in the history of the sport.

Due to new regulations all teams will be required to use V8 engines next season. This follows sixteen years of V10 engines. Team boss Frank Williams was happy with the deal as Cosworth have a long history associated with the V8 engine.

He said: " Some teams and manufacturers have absolutely no experience of V8s while others enjoy only limited experience. Cosworth, however, have excelled both historically, as well as in contemporary V8-powered international motorsport."
