Soviet prep plan for Breeders'
Tuesday, 9 August 2005 17:14Last year's multiple Group One winner Soviet Song is likely to have two runs in the autumn ahead of her craack at the Breeders' Cup Mile in New York on October 29.
James Fanshawe's five-year-old mare looks set to head to Leopardstownfor the Matron Stakes on September 10, before taking in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket three weeks later.
The crack miler found only rising star Proclamation too good when narrowly losing out on back-to-back wins in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but has reportedly thrived since.
"She has come out of her last race really well and we have quite a few options to consider for the autumn," said Matthew Budden, racing manager to owners the Elite Racing Club.
"At the moment, the plan would probably be to have a look at the Matron Stakes in Ireland, which we won last year.
"If we do go for the Matron she would probably then end up going for the Sun Chariot instead of the QEII, and the plan would probably be to give her two runs before she goes to America."
Soviet Song could meet Proclamation again at the Breeders' Cup, with other European challengers Divine Proportions, Rakti and Nayyir also possibles for the race.
"There are some good milers around and lets just hope they all get there as if they do, it will be a good race," added Budden.
