Jordan secure Toyota engine deal
Saturday, 30 July 2005 09:18Jordan have secured a supply of Toyota engines for next season, the team confirmed this morning.
The Silverstone-based squad have been using Toyota power this year and a deal for 2006, when they will be rebranded as Midland, was widely expected for some weeks.
That one-year contract was finally signed today, meaning the newly-renamed Midland team will use up-to-date V8 engines next season, with Toyota promising to deliver the same specification units as their works team enjoys.
Jordan managing director Colin Kolles said: "The co-operation with Toyota was a key element for Jordan Grand Prix in the 2005 season and I am personally delighted to carry on this excellent collaboration.
"With Toyota's commitment to our team they have also done the magnanimous thing for the sport by putting Formula One above their own exclusivity.
"As we are in the middle of a transitional year with difficult odds, the exceptional Toyota engine reliability record is essential for Jordan to gather crucial data to be used for the development of the 2006 car.
"At the same time I hope we can help Toyota in the battle for world championship honours."
