Seven cities bid for 2014 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has revealed that seven cities will bid for the right to stage the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The seven are Kazakhstan's largest city Almaty, Georgia's Borjomi, the Spanish city of Jaca, South Korea's Pyeongchang, Austria's Salzburg, Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi and the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

The IOC decision on the 2014 venue will be made in July 2007.

Salt Lake City staged the 2002 Winter Olympics. Turin will host next year's Games and Vancouver is the 2010 venue.

London was chosen as the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympics on July 6, beating Paris, Madrid, New York and Moscow. The 2008 Summer Games will take place in Beijing.
