Oxx happy with Azamour

Trainer John Oxx reports Azamour the favourite for Saturday's King George & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes to be in good order ahead of the midsummer showpiece.

The four-year-old colt will be stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time after his success in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes a t Royal Ascot at York and last season's Irish Champion Stakes.

"He's fit and well and ready to go. He'll just go through his normal routine this week," John Oxx said of his scharge, who is owned by the Aga Khan.

"We thought we'd try a mile and a half once and the King George is the race for it. We will find out on Saturday when he should get the fast ground he likes.

"We hope he will stay but racing is littered with trainers and jockeys who will stay and then being proved wrong."

Other notable contenders for the Newbury event are Grey Swallow, Yeats and Ace from Ireland and last year's Arc winner, Bago.

King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes: Ace, Azamour, Bago, Doyen, Fight Your Corner, Gamut, Grey Swallow, Mubtaker, Norse Dancer, Phoenix Reach, Razkalla, Warrsan, Yeats, The Geezer, Eswarah, Policy Maker (16).
