Drivers meet to discuss US race

Formula One drivers will meet today to discuss their role in the United States Grand Prix fiasco.

The drivers were largely impotent to change the course of events at Indianapolis, when 14 of them were advised to pull out of the race after the warm-up lap due to fears over Michelin tyre safety.

The majority of the drivers united afterwards to sign a joint letter broadly in support of the seven teams, dismissing the suggestion that a Michelin-only speed limit should have been enforced in turn 13.

But only 19 of the 24 drivers signed the document, prompting Toyota's Jarno Trulli to admit the Grand Prix Drivers' Association face difficult questions at a planned meeting in Magny-Cours today.

They will discuss why the drivers from Jordan and Ferrari did not join their counterparts, despite apparently being asked to.

He said: "I think the situation is not clear. I think we will be more weak because there is something not clear as I received the document direct from the GPDA."
