Channon's Wings set for Royal flight

Micky Channon will rely on Flashy Wings to give him the a third success in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot at York next week.

Unbeaten in two outings at Newmarket and Newbury, the Zafonic filly will complete her preparation for the five-furlong contest, which this year takes place at York, with a workout on Friday.

Channon is sitting on a strong team of juveniles for the Royal fixture and he said: "Flashy Wings is grand form. She was ready quite early and was screaming to run which is why she was out at the Craven meeting. I had no control over the matter but she's done everything I've asked of her. We're very hopeful."

Channon landed the Queen Mary with Bint Allayl and Queen's Logic but only has one victory so far in the Coventry Stakes.

His two candidates this time are Zato and BA Foxtrot, with the latter putting up an impressive display to win the Woodcote Stakes by a wide margin last weekend.

"BA seems to have come out of Epsom as well as I could have expected and I think Zato is an improving colt who has earned a shot at the race,"  he said.

Another Channon two-year-old runner with an obvious chance will be Newbury maiden winner Championship Point in the Chesham Stakes.

In the Norfolk Stakes Channon will rely on Ajigolo, whose lacklustre performance when only tenth in the National Stakes at Sandown has perplexed the trainer.

"The way he worked this morning I'd have to think the Sandown run was all wrong," said Channon.

Of the older horses Majestic Desert is giving some good signals after a somewhat disappointing start to the campaign, and Channon added: "She works very nicely and will run in the Windsor Forest Stakes."

There are less definite plans for Rocamadour following his creditable third placing behind Shamardal in the French Derby at Chantilly on Sunday.

"He's come back fine and had a little canter this morning," said Channon. "He's in the St James's Palace Stakes but we'll have to take a look at it and monitor his progress."
