Bowyer included in Newcastle squad

Lee Bowyer was today included in Newcastle's 19-man squad for the UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg against Sporting Lisbon tomorrow night.

The 28-year-old midfielder is set to begin a four-game domestic suspension after he was sent off for fighting with team-mate Kieron Dyer during Saturday's defeat to Aston Villa, with the threat of a further ban to come after the Football Association charged him with violent conduct.

Bowyer was fined a maximum six weeks' wages by Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd, who considered sacking the player, but has been selected by Graeme Souness for this crucial European tie at St James' Park.

Dyer, who must serve a three-match ban for his part in the incident after Newcastle's appeal against his red card was rejected, is also in the squad.
