Channon aspires to Kempton victory
Monday, 21 March 2005 17:09As the flat season in Britain gets underway, Mick Channon's Joint Aspiration heads a field of 13 fillies in the Masaka Stakes at Kempton.
The Listed contest was won last year by Hathrah, who went on to finish third in the 1000 Guineas.
It has attracted five Newmarket Classic entries this time, including Joint Aspiration, whose sixth to Playful Act in the Fillies' Mile is the best piece of juvenile form on offer.
The other UltimatePoker.com 1000 Guineas entries are Channon's Umniya, Tahrir from the Barry Hills yard, and two once-raced unbeaten fillies in the Michael Jarvis-trained Vista Bella and Mark Johnston's Starchy, who made a good impression when an easy winner of a back-end maiden at Nottingham.
Completing the field are Baltic Dip, Borthwick Girl, Heat Of The Night, Justaquestion, Little Miss Gracie, Musical Day, Nice Tune and She's My Outsider.
Run over the same mile distance later in the card is the Easter Stakes, in which Channon is represented by Coventry Stakes third Capable Guest.
Other notable horses among a field of 12 are Washington Singer Stakes winner Kings Quay and Fulke Johnson Houghton's consistent performer Beaver Patrol.
