Demonstration not aimed at Paris bid

Paris 2012 Olympic bid officials say that a demonstration by trade unions coinciding with a visit by an International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation commission next month is not aimed at damaging their cause.

"The trade union demonstration scheduled to take place on March 10 is not related in any way to the Paris bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games," a statement said.

Philippe Baudillon, chief executive of Paris 2012, added: "All of the French trade unions want the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. They continue to co-operate with the bid committee and have already stated their commitment to working with the organising committee should Paris have the honour of becoming a host city".
