Leitrim run riot in Carrick-on-Shannon

Leitrim scored a bloodless 0-21 to 0-03 victory over a hapless London side in the Allianz National Football League in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Midfielders Chris Carroll and Gary McCloskey were completely dominant and gave
Leitrim total command.

The Leitrim backs provided watertight cover with the result that 'keeper Cathal McCrann had little to do over the seventy minutes.

But it was a game from which new Leitrim manager Dessie Dolan learned little, as the quality of the opposition was totally sub-standard.

Dolan would have much preferred a stiffer test in advance of his visit next Sunday to take on All-Ireland semi-finalists Fermanagh in Enniskillen.

Leitrim took a solid grip on the proceedings in the opening 19 minutes, shooting an unanswered seven points.

Johnny Goldrick and Michael Foley hit the target twice while Niall Gilbane and James Glancy added a point each.

London opened their account with a well struck free from Barry Solen after 22 minutes.

But Leitrim continued to dictate matters for the rest of the half with Johnny Goldrick shooting two further points while James Glancy, Barry Prior, Darren Duignan and Michael Foley scored a point each.

Leitrim led by 0-13 to 0-1 at the interval and crushed the London challenge when adding eight points without reply in the first 30 minutes of the second half.

Michael Foley, Colin Regan and Johnny Goldrick added two points each for Leitrim in this spell while Barry Prior and sub Michael Duignan shot a point apiece.

London sub Danny O'Connor and Barry Solen put over consolation points for the Exiles before the end as Leitrim coasted to victory.
